The Southwestern Team Disc Golf
Invitational (Team Tournament) is held on the first weekend of December
every year. Eight teams from California and Arizona compete for the
perpetual trophy and bragging rights for a year. There are 12 players on
each team comprised of 7 open, 3 masters, 1 grandmasters, and 1 woman.
Qualifying for the San Diego Disc Golf Team
One can automatically
qualify for the team by:
- Winning three
monthly tournaments in the Open division.
- Winning two monthly
tournaments in the Open division with a score of –20 or better for each
tournament.
- Winning a major
(National Tour , Super Tour or other major event) out of town tournament
in either the Open or Master division. Grandmasters can qualify by winning
a B-tier or higher tournament in the masters or open division.
- Finishing in the
top three (regardless of age) in the Morley Field Course Championship. The
top players age 40+ and 50+ also qualify.
Twelve players compete
in match play to determine the remaining spots for the team. The following
three factors are considered in selecting these twelve players:
- Results from
monthly tournaments (Open division only).
- Results from out of
town tournaments.
- Score in the Morley
Field Course Championship must be better than the “Mendoza Line.” For
example, if the “Mendoza Line” is –12 as it was this year, your score must
be –12 or better cumulative in the open division to be considered for
match play qualifying.
