The Escondido City Council this week agreed to let the San Diego Aces Disc Golf Club install and maintain an 18-hole disc golf course on the northern end of Kit Carson Park near the amphitheater, with Bear Valley Parkway as its eastern boundary. Read more about it at the San Diego Aces Disc Golf Club website. We should ALL thank the Aces Board of Directors for the many, many hours of hard work to get this and other (upcoming) courses in the San Diego County area!

Congratulation to Team South County for their victory. It was a much tighter match than last year. It ended up no surprise that both teams won on their home courses, but the South's dominance at Sun Valley carried the weekend. Congratulations to Team North County for charging back and nearly erasing a 14-point deficit coming into the final day. Thank you to Daniel Lichtman, Allen Risley, and all those who committed their weekend to this great event.
Below are the weekends scores (Match Play) for the South Team.

17 SD Aces members showed up early Sunday morning ready to put their tags on the line, with Angel Garcia bringing in the low tag #16. It was a perfect day to play disc golf with clear skies, no wind, and warm Socal weather. While the Chargers were on TV running over the Chiefs, the course opened up and lines were very short allowing a steady pace round. It was Mike B. who ended up shooting an impressive -10, taking the Winner spot and selecting a custom stamped 2009 Sun Valley Star Boss from the grab bag prizes donated to the Aces by its members. Grace Rivas, San Diego Aces newest member, signed up this morning for a 2009 membership to play in the challenge and ending up winning a custom Tie-Dye stamped 2009 End of the Trail Classic Avenger SS from the $1 raffle. What a great reward for becoming a member! Player Score Tag In Tag Out

On February 14, the North County team travelled south for the completion of the North vs. South San Diego Team Tournament. Some competitors were unable to make the tournament but there were a few disc golfers willing to fill in as substitutes. The singles round started around 9am at Morley Field. It had rained the night which made the course a little muddy but the sun was out in the morning and made for a great morning of disc golf. In the afternoon, the competition moved over to Sun Valley for a round of doubles. Again, the rain made the course a bit muddy which resulted in quite a few tombstones and some tough footing on the hillsides.
The North team began the day with an 8 point lead (136-128) but the South team received some strong play in their singles matches and took a 26 point lead into the afternoon doubles round. Once the doubles round finished, the South increased their lead to 36 points (300-264) to secure a victory in the first annual tournament. The results of the matches are below.
